A text-based design, also called "character based," it refers to handling text and not graphics. Simple charts and illustrations may be drawn, but they are limited to a set of special characters that are strung together to make up lines and shades. It may serve or stand as trademark on any association or product. Usually there is no icon or emblem attached in this design. Choosing a certain concept in making a design may be risky sometimes. For some instances, we cannot avoid to have similar or close to the same company names, for there are lots of existing industries around the globe. Designing a certain logo will always be originally unique. And ere are some concept's definitions.
There are two considerations that any business owner and designer should know about making a text base design. The text is mainly the font that is used to stand as brandtext and has no emblem separated. In line with this, fonts should be a license which are called Personal and Commercial Font. Both are downloadable. To understand this complexities. Here's the full explanation of both.
The downloadable font are those font that is ready to use. And there are two types of downloadable font "PERSONAL and COMMERCIAL"
These two are optional.
Example: If one is desired to have an emblem or icon. The Text brand is not necessarily to be stylized, one has need to do is to choose either personal or commercial font for your text branding. This is also the reason why some freelance company regulates some rules regarding the proper and/or declaration of any font used by any of their designer. This is to avoid any complications.
COMMERCIAL FONT
Everyone knows what is the standard commercial font is. This is usually free to use in any term, business logo , flyers, etc. Just be sure always to use it with originality. Using a commercial font concept is best applicable in text works. If a commercial font concept will be use as a Brand design for a certain product or firm, possibilities are some complication occurrences.
What are these complications?
If one is desired to use commercial font in their brand logo; using a text based design without any emblem/icon, in a high percentage of business industries today, we cannot avoid similarities ofBRAND NAME
from the others. - Let say for example, Two company has the same name, these two didn't use any icon or marking to represent their brand, accidentally they found same font to use for the branding.
i.e: If a certain company named “MileStone” and is base here in the Philippines and there is a similar company name that is base in USA. A certain client from USA had a transaction from MileStone USA and just had a vacation here in the Philippines. While the certain client had a tour, he saw a signboard of a business brand same with MileStone in USA. He thought that the two businesses, which have similar signboard names are in connection with each other. He decided to enter the establishment and asks if the transaction he made in USA can be trace here in the Philippines and went on a conclusion to close the said transaction. Just after his inquiry, he found out that the two establishments work as exactly different from each other. This is the start of identity complications. Not because they have the same name, they have the same meaning. Just like to the name of persons. We do have many similar names but may differ in family name, middle name, etc. In business, all proprietors aim to be the only original when it comes to their establishment names. We all want to be unique when it comes to brand originality, identity and flexibility.
Here are some ideas you may consider in using commercial font concept to make you original:
1. The first letter of your establishment name should be associated with a company mark. This is to mean, that even if you have a same name of establishment, you do not have a same mark. People would be very sure that you do not have the same identity.
2. Hue identity- You need to have your own original color combination to be use as your background. The colors that you will use should be rare to the eyes of the public or to the competitors. Make sure you will always use your original design every time.
3. Look for your originalBRAND NAME
. Make it a playful name where nobody would have thought the same brand name as yours. 4. You need to create your company emblem or icon (specially if you decide to use a commercial font), which is use separately from your brand name. Through this, you can use your commercial font concept design as brand name and your icon or emblem as your trademark.
PERSONAL FONT
When we decide to look for somebody to make our dream concept come true, that is our personal font concept. In exchange to that, we may labor for those who do a favor for us. Sometimes, there are inevitable consequences that will come and we do not know that we are now violating the law as long as what we want we will have. There are some considerations to regard as in allowing anybody doing a personal concept for us, such as being a licensed one should highly be recommendable. This is also to avoid possible complications in the outcome.
Just like using the commercial font concept, personal font concept as your own font style. Only you and your designer have the access in making your designed personal font concept. There should really be a visible design that should stand out from all others. You may draw the personal font style that you want as long as it is originally came out from your mind and made originally by your designer. In this concept, the viewer would tend to realize the uniqueness of the establishment owner and or his designer.
As stated above, in commercial font concept, the text color should not be change must keep what you used in the beginning. In contrast, you may change the color and place the color you want in making a personal concept logo. In addition, same as the commercial one, you may also use emblem or icon in making your personal concept.
Always put in mind, that being unique in all factor is the only criterion in making a personal concept. You may change or create your own imaginative font concept as long as you want to. Make your imagination go wide.
